Practical gifts for new homeowners

Practical gifts for a new homeowner: a doorbell, smart plugs, an eero extender only if they already use eero, a humidifier, a throw, and a small battery backup.

The short answer: Buy one thing the new place does not do yet. A Ring Battery Doorbell 2K if the door has no button camera and they will use the Ring app. Kasa EP10 plugs if they want lamps on a schedule and the Wi-Fi has a 2.4 GHz band. An eero 6+ extender only if they already have an eero network. Confirm that on the listing. Do not buy the extender as a first router. A Levoit top-fill humidifier for dry air, a Bedsure throw if you confirm the size, or an APC BE600M1 if the modem and router die in every short outage. See all Black Friday picks. The Wi-Fi piece of this list also belongs on Cyber Monday. Amazon has not published the longer U.S. deal-window dates. This page does not guess them. Black Friday is November 27, 2026. Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026.

We did not stage these in a new house. As of November 2, 2026, several of these listings were on Amazon best-seller lists. This page does not cite a rank number. The plug and the battery backup are older confirmed listings on this site.

One gap, not a shopping spree

A new homeowner is already buying trash cans, shower curtains, and bulbs. A gift pile of six "smart" boxes becomes another weekend of setup. Pick the gap they have mentioned: the door, the dark lamp, the dry air, the cold couch, or the internet that dies when the lights flicker. If they have mentioned none of these, ask, or bring food. This page is not a reason to outfit a house they did not ask you to outfit.

The kitchen gifts guide is the other practical list if the gap is cooking rather than the building.

The door

The Ring Battery Doorbell 2K is the doorbell on this page. It is the wrong gift when they wanted a camera in the yard with no button, or a plug-in camera inside. That choice is the whole point of the Blink vs Ring guide. Use it before you promise "a camera."

Confirm power and which recordings need a plan. This page does not quote plan prices. Check current plan pricing on the listing. Skip the doorbell if a company already installed one they intend to keep, or if they have asked for no cameras. A doorbell aimed at a neighbor's window is a problem, not a housewarming.

Plugs, and only then an extender

The Kasa EP10 4-pack is the beginner gift: lamps and fans, on a schedule, without a hub. Kasa's own notes, already reflected on the beginner smart-home guide, say these plugs use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If the router has that band turned off, the plugs will not join. Turn the band on for setup. Do not buy the 4-pack for someone who does not want an app.

The eero 6+ extender is not a starter router. Confirm on the listing whether it needs an existing eero network. If the page says it does, and they do not own eero, do not buy it. A first Wi-Fi system is a different purchase. The home network gear guide and the mesh guide are the pages for "the Wi-Fi is bad everywhere." An extender cannot invent a network that is not there, and it cannot fix a plan that is too slow. Test a phone in the weak room first. Sometimes the fix is moving the router out of a closet.

Comfort that does not need an account

The Levoit is a top-fill humidifier. Confirm the tank size and any coverage claim on the listing, then match that to one room. A bedroom humidifier is not a whole-house system. Empty and refill it, or it becomes a mold problem. This page does not claim a health result. It is a comfort gift for dry air, not a medical device.

The Bedsure throw is a blanket. Confirm the size and the color. A throw that does not cover the couch they actually sit on is a lap blanket, which may still be what you wanted. Say which. Do not describe the fabric beyond the product name. "GentleSoft" is the line's name, not a lab result.

The short outage

The APC BE600M1 is the gift when a one-second outage reboots the modem and the router and knocks everyone off a call. APC's datasheet, as already cited on this site's office checklist, describes it as a 600 VA / 330 W battery backup with seven outlets, five of them battery-backed, plus a USB charging port. Plug the modem and router into the battery-backed outlets. It is sized for that job and for short outages. It is not a generator, and it will not run a refrigerator or a space heater.

Skip it when the house has no outage problem, or when they need hours of runtime. A bigger backup is a different project. Put the unit where someone can hear it alarm and where the cable still reaches the modem.

Who should skip this page

Before you order

Each button is one ASIN. A different Ring generation, a single Kasa plug, an eero 3-pack, or another color of blanket is a different product. Run the 90-second deal check. Then check the current price on Amazon. This page does not publish prices, discount figures, star ratings, or review counts.

Black Friday is November 27, 2026. Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026. The longer U.S. window is not announced. An extender that requires eero still requires eero after the weekend.

Frequently asked questions

What is a practical housewarming gift?

One gap: the door, a lamp schedule, dry air, a throw, or a small battery backup for the modem. Do not send all of them.

Can the eero extender be their only router?

Do not assume that. Confirm on the listing whether it needs an existing eero network. If it does, it is the wrong gift for a house with no eero.

Do the Kasa plugs need a hub?

No hub. They do need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, which Kasa documents and this site already tells beginners to check.

Should I buy Blink instead of Ring?

Only if the job is a camera rather than a doorbell. Use the Blink vs Ring guide. This page's doorbell link is the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K.

Does the battery backup run the whole house?

No. It is for a modem and router during a short outage. It is not a generator.

Did you test these in a new house?

No. The guide matches a gap to a listing and tells you what to confirm.
